Varvaressos in Van Cliburn Competition

A Greek pianist is participating in the main event of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition for the first time since 1981. Back then, another Greek, Panayis Lyras (aka Lykiardopoulos) won the second prize. Vassilis Varvaresos is one of the 29 competitors chosen to perform in the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano competition after two preliminary rounds. 26 yo from the city of Thessaloniki, he is considered by many as the finest Greek pianist of his generation. I have never had yet the chance to listen to him live.

Check the following part of his first round recital.

You can follow the competition live here. And comments as well in their blog.

Don't miss the phenomenon, Nobuyuki Tsujii, a blind 20 yo Japanese pianist. You can forget anything else...
