το Κουαρτέττο +kinisis θα παρουσιάσει ένα ποικίλο πρόγραμμα στον Φιλολογικό Σύλλογο Παρνασσό. Το κουαρτέττο εγχόρδων της Ορχήστρας των Χρωμάτων αποτελείται από τους Οδυσσέα Κορέλη, και Franc Shestani (βιολί), Ηλία Σδούκο (βιόλα), και Vangjel Nina (τσέλο). Η συναυλία θα αρχίσει στις 8:30 μμ.

Last month I had to take four flights of AirFrance. Luckily two of them were operated by
Finnair: meaning smooth service on ground and in flight, and a surprisingly, lately, effort to 
offer more than decent meals. I used to criticize most of the food they offered, I guess they
understood somehow that a meal can be of importance too: especially when it costs them
almost nothing.

Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών [ΦΑ]. Οι περισσότεροι κατακρίνουν τον πρόεδρο του Φεστιβάλ κ. Γιώργο Λούκο, κι
εκφράζουν διάφορες απόψεις για το πώς θα έπρεπε -κατά τη γνώμη τους- να είναι το Φεστιβάλ.

Greetings from sunny Athens! Yes, swimming is on the program. Over
35 degrees Celcius in the city, but here in the east coast a bit better. 
Now, I left something unfinished last week. Just a few words for the rest
of the concert programme of Trieste.
The two new works we presented there were a trio by Antonis 
Anissegos, helix from 2004, and the 4 Greek dances by Georgios Kasassoglou

Arghyris Kounadis' duo for cello and piano Präludium zu einer Elegie was
composed in 1991. It's a a virtuoso yet lyrical fantasy in free form. Next week, my first concert in a long time will find place. As I wrote in the previous post, is a chamber music
concert in Trieste, Italy. In the programme, works by Greek composers of the diaspora for flute, cello, and piano.

It´s about time to start writing about personal things -and leave other people (and institutions) in peace.
Few concerts coming up till the end of the year, and it seems that my effort to turn to a more conventional
repertoire will fall down this time. There will be lots of Greek music playing during the second half of 2008,
with chamber music and a concerto in the focus.

The international reader will probably know the successful BBC series
Great Britons. The format proved popular among viewers, and it 
has been produced elsewhere too. This year, last May, it was the turn
of my country for such a program. A channel named skai (pronounced 
sky -any similarity there?), has taken the burden of chosing 100 great 
Greeks.

The Eurovision Competition for young musicians found place this 
week in Vienna. Among the participants a Greek clarinet player. Dionysios 
Grammenos his name, and he played yesterday evening (9.5.) at the final.
In his program, Francaix's clarinet concerto, the 4th movement, accompanied 
from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. And he did win this competition. The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra had its annual concert in Athens
last Tuesday. In the program, Mussorgksy's Night on the bare mountain, 
Shostakovich's 1st cello concerto and Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony. Myron Michailidis, the orchestra's artistic director, conducted this concert. The soloist, none other

Last Saturday, Jan. 26th, I heard the Municipal Orchestra
of Athens in a rather unusual concert venue: a place that I was not aware of
as a concert hall, the Byzantine museum of Athens. Briefly, not the best place
of the city for a classical music concert, with mediocre acoustics, while

The Ensemble Modern is a well established institution by now. Since 2004,
they have organized summer courses on the Greek Island of Paxos, as part
of the annual Paxos Festival.
Though foreign students arrived to the island for the course in the first two
years, this course is mostly for young Greek musicians. Furthermore, its participants

Ένα μεγάλο στρατόπεδο Νεοσυλλέκτων (Ν/Σ), με μια ατελείωτη σειρά φαντάρων (~1500).
Οι δύο κυρίαρχες ομάδες φαντάρων είναι οι μάγκες (συνήθως πιτσιρίκοι, το πολύ μέχριο 23) και οι μαλθακοί/υπερευαίσθητοι... One more week free; I couldn't miss the opportunity to listen to 
two more orchestras of Athens. On Friday, Athens State Orchestra presented a program dedicated to the national holiday
of October 28th, while on Saturday, the municipal orchestra of Athens had 
a concert in the same venue, the Athens concert hall.

I went to an orchestra concert last Thursday, Oct. 18th. While I usually don't 
write critiques on Greek artists, I'll make an exception today, since
both the conductor and the soloist were foreigners. The Orchestra
of the Colours had a tribute to the 100th anniversary of Edvard Grieg's 
death. In the program, Peer Gynt Suite no.1, the piano concerto, Holberg suite

82 years are completed today from the death of the Greek composer Emilios 
Riadis. This post is a small tribute to him.
He was born in Thessaloniki (and here) on May 1st, 1880. 
1908-1910 he studied music theory, piano, singing, and conducting in Munich with
Felix Mottl among others. He moved to Paris in 1910, and stayed thee until 1915.

A series of post concerning problems in the business
of Greek classical music starts with this post. While written 
in random order, that is in the way they just pop up in my head,
I'll try to concentrate at first on those problems that arise
from the professionals and the afficionados alike.

Andreas Makris was a relatively unknown Greek violinist and composer. 
He lived most of his life in the US and worked as violinist 
for the National Symphony Orchestra for 28 years.
Among his compositional work belong many arrangements.

Andreas Makris died in 2005 from diabetes. His birthday

own statement; most American sources mention though March 1st as his date
of birth). He was a Greek by birth -1896- (American citizens since
